The 2 Most Important Days In Your Life – A Lesson On Website Creation

Mark Twain once wrote, “The 2 most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why.”

I just learned this quote today. I’m surprised it didn’t get on my radar screen sooner because I think it’s one of the most thought provoking statements I’ve ever pondered. I’ll

most likely ponder it forever.

Mark Twain, in his wisdom is using this poignant statement to awaken our consciousness to examine our life’s purpose.  “Why am I here?  What is my purpose? What do I bring to my family, my friendships, the community, the country, the world?  What do I bring to life’s table…or do I just take space at it? Have I figured it all out yet?  Is there still more to do? Are there really any limitations? What’s next?”

Okay…so what’s this got to do with website creation?

Most websites aren’t created with a specific purpose in mind.  They sit there and take up space.  They cost money.

Most website don’t deliver good information to visitors and prospective clients, they don’t make an offer, they don’t add any kind of value at all.  They exist only by the conversion of an idea, a moment of excitement and action (as most things are conceived and eventually born).

But just as a life is shaped by environment, awareness and experience, so too can a website become reshaped into a purposeful existence.  In fact, a website which undergoes transformation, one which brings continually more value to the table, to the users’ experience, evolves into a purposeful piece of the online community, the customers, the industry, the world.  this is a website which becomes more visible to more people because it is a positive force online just as a purposeful person becomes more visible in the world by way of a wake of positive influence.

What specific purposes can a website serve?

  • Delivers useful resource for valuable information and content
  • Collects contact information from people who are qualified clients
  • Sells your product or service to people
  • Teaches and/or inspire
  • Entertains
  • Establishes trust

As a marketer, I look at each of these elements as a means to establish a business relationship.  Each approach should have an open door, an easy option for people to take a next step toward engaging you and your business:  An offer, a free report, a coupon, an invitation.  People must be told what you want them to do next.  You can’t just expect them to follow the Yellow Brick Road.  You need to tell them to follow, follow, follow, follow, follow the yellow brick road.  But first, your website must have a purpose and a destination to a specific place where the road takes them.

It doesn’t matter if your website was lacking in purpose when you first created it or had it created for you.  All that matters is that you start now to reshape it so it starts producing a specific result you want to get.  I hope you want new customers so you can get more sales and make more money.

The purpose of MY website is to deliver good, valuable information.  With it, I hope to establish myself as a trusted friend and resource and perhaps you will some day engage me in consideration of serving you with my expert services.

Why People Stop Doing Business With You

1% of your customers will never come back because they will die.  And there’s nothing you can do about that.

3% of your customers will never patronize your business again because they will move away.  There’s not much you can do about that.

This post is from an article in my One Good Idea newsletter delivered by mail. It’s full of useful marketing, management and business tips and ideas. Subscribe!

5% of your customers will take the advice of a friend or relative and choose another source for the product or service you provide.  There IS something you can do about that.

9% will find what they perceive as a better deal, a better product or service.  There is also something you can do about that.

14% will leave you out of plain old dissatisfaction with  you, your product, your service or an employee.

68% of the people who leave your business and never come back due to indifference.

What is indifference?

Indifference occurs when people just don’t have a feeling either way about your business, the service, the experience, the relationship.  This is ONE crucial area where you, as a small business owner have the hands-down advantage over most of your larger competitors.

A warm greeting, eye-to-eye contact,  a sincere “Nice to see you again” and a smiling “Thank You” can easily differentiate your business from others.  This is the absolute minimum, I expect when I patronize a business and yet it’s a rare occurrence.

Making clients feel good, welcomed, valued and convenienced are critical in overcoming almost ALL these  reasons people will forget about you.  Create relationships and keep more customers.

Online Coupon Marketing Done Right

online coupon marketing
Online coupons work for Atlantic Palace Suites

This is a great example of online coupon marketing done right.

Atlantic Palace Suites in Atlantic City has taken an aggressive approach to marketing online with coupons.  Here’s how:

  • 1st, their website has a home page link directly to their moderncoupon page.  This is instantly putting many of their website visitors onto the fast track to taking action. Naturally being intrigued by the opportunity for a discount, they click through to check it out.  When they do, these visitors select coupons and instantly, they have added their name and email address to the Atlantic Palace email list.
  • 2nd, they’ve loaded their moderncoupon page with images rather than text.  Although I normally recommend 4 pictures, this is really effective for the hotel because pictures speak volumes for a  hotel.  (I will now recommend restaurants to add more food images too because this is working so well)
  • 3rd, They have posted NINE coupon offers leveraging different marketing tactics:  Limited-Time Opportunity, Combinations, Bounceback Marketing, Strategic Alliance, Theme Marketing and the all-important Premium Product Offer.
  • 4th, They’re also doing a Daily-Deal (Groupon) campaign which drives massive traffic to the site.

The combination of all these powerful tactics are adding up to one powerful online marketing strategy which is filling their rooms even in a climate where they have stiff competition from all the huge casino hotels right in the neighborhood offering cheap price incentives.

Additionally, Atlantic Palace Suites adds, deletes and edits coupons regularly.  This is something I talk about all the time as smart marketing both online AND offline.  They’re getting a large number repeat visitors to the site and repeat coupon clickers BECAUSE they change the offers.

People who see the same offers time after time are less likely to pay attention to them.

I encourage all who read this to click through to the Atlantic Palace Hotel website and then click through to their moderncoupon page and take a lesson in online coupon marketing done right.

I’m available to help coach anyone on smart online coupon strategies or how to make your Groupon (or other Daily-Deal) campaign more effective and profitable.

Online Marketing Services For Cherry Hill Business Owners

Online marketing services I provide are guaranteed to get my clients greater online visibility and response.

I take a rather obvious approach which, strangely, other firms don’t.  Well, it’s not really so strange at all because most other firms aren’t and the people they employ aren’t business owners, they don’t have a business background, they aren’t marketers nor do they study the art of marketing.  It’s totally unclear to me why they’re in the business at all.  And unfortunately, they charge a lot of many and leave their clients out to dry.

Here;s what I do:  I start with analyzing a client’s current overall online presence.  Then I compare it to other similar businesses who have a better presence online.  Then, I map out a strategy to imitate what they’re doing good and try to do it a little better.  Then I see what they’re not doing good and I do those things a lot better.

Although the speed at which hire search engine results come about varies, I make it happen.

But achieving high search results is only one part of the equation.  If people are seeing you website, they still may not engage you company. Here again is another failure of most “geeks” in the internet marketing business.

Most website developers are not educated in matters of business.  They don’t know how to convert a website visitor into a new customer or at the very least, a captured lead.  And because most business owners don’t really understand what’s possible from smart marketing on their website, they get no appreciable customer generation or income stream as a result of their website.

So if you or someone you know in Cherry Hill or anywhere around South Jersey or Philadelphia wants to get more customers and make more money by creating a Rock-Solid Online Presence, just fill out the form below.
